Comissão atribui Estrelas de Ouro a 12 projectos de cidadania

A Comissão Europeia seleccionou 12 projectos de participação cívica que promovem no terreno a acção e o debate sobre questões da UE. Mais para o fim do ano, estes projectos vão receber as «Estrelas de Ouro da Cidadania Europeia Activa» numa cerimónia organizada em Bruxelas pelo Comissário Ján Figel'.

A Comissão Europeia seleccionou 12 projectos de participação cívica que promovem no terreno a acção e o debate sobre questões da UE. Mais para o fim do ano, estes projectos vão receber as «Estrelas de Ouro da Cidadania Europeia Activa» numa cerimónia organizada em Bruxelas pelo Comissário Ján Figel'.
As Estrelas de Ouro de 2008 são atribuídas no âmbito do programa Europa para os Cidadãos e destinam-se a reconhecer oficialmente iniciativas que são exemplos em termos de cooperação, métodos de trabalho eficazes e resultados tangíveis na área da participação cívica. Os projectos vencedores envolvem participantes de 22 Estados-Membros da União Europeia.
Ján Figel', o comissário europeu responsável pelo pelouro da educação, formação, cultura e juventude, declarou a este respeito: «A Europa precisa da participação, precisa de conhecer a reacção dos seus cidadãos. O programa Europa para os Cidadãos apoia e promove os esforços bem sucedidos de participação cívica activa que produzem resultados concretos. Não é, pois, nenhuma surpresa encontrar entre os vencedores das Estrelas de Ouro sistematicamente iniciativas que suscitam a reflexão e que apontam na mesma direcção: a participação em causas europeias comuns e a sua promoção. Na minha opinião, estes projectos mostram claramente cidadãos activos a construir a Europa no dia-a-dia quando se mobilizam em torno de questões que lhes dizem respeito».
A selecção dos vencedores deste ano foi confiada a um júri externo, composto por sete membros, e presidido por Hannu Takkula, deputado do Parlamento Europeu e Vice-Presidente da Comissão da Cultura e da Educação do Parlamento Europeu. Fizeram também parte do júri Brenda King, do Comité Económico e Social Europeu, e Keith Walters, do Comité das Regiões.
«Tivemos a oportunidade de analisar projectos de qualidade e de seleccionar aqueles que, indo ao encontro do objectivo do programa Europa para os Cidadãos, podiam também servir para incentivar esforços semelhantes no terreno», declarou o presidente do júri, H. Takkula, que acrescentou: «Este ano, porém, em colaboração com o Ano Europeu do Diálogo Intercultural, seleccionámos três projectos que partem das experiências históricas das gerações passadas e educam as gerações futuras, ensinando-lhes a ser tolerantes e abertas».
As Estrelas de Ouro são atribuídas anualmente no âmbito do programa Europa para os Cidadãos, um programa virado para a sociedade civil organizada e para os cidadãos em geral. Este é o principal programa da UE no domínio da cidadania activa e tem por objectivo reforçar a participação dos cidadãos na construção da Europa; para esse efeito, está disponível em 2008 um orçamento de cerca de 27 milhões de euros.
A cerimónia de entrega das Estrelas de Ouro terá lugar em 13 de Novembro de 2008, em Bruxelas. A cerimónia será aberta ao público mediante inscrição.

-The Future of the European Union – Consequences and Perspectives of the Enlargement in view of German–French, German-Polish and German-Hungarian Town Twinning Partnerships, Reichelsheim, DE (Partners: Dol de Bretagne-FR, Jablonka-PL, Nagymanyok-HU).
A project debating the challenges of Europe at local level during the German presidency: impact of the EU and the German presidency, value of the EU for the citizens, role of citizens, people with disabilities in European societies, climate change, EU environmental policy and equal opportunities.

-Meeting of the Citizens of the Partner Towns, Bojnice, SK (Partners: Bad Krozingen-DE, Rosta- IT, Jesenik-CZ, Zator-PL).
A project built around participants' active contributions on the subjects chosen: 2007 Year of Equal Opportunities, exchange of practices, workings of the EP. Well adapted methods for all age groups.

-Magic 27 – the Future of Common Europe, Bialogard, PL (Partners: Akniste-LV, Gnosjö-SE, Olen-BE, Caracal-RO).
Active participation of young people taking further interest in European integration and democracy in Europe. Celebration of the 2007 EU enlargement to Romania and Bulgaria. The project served also as an opportunity to show a travelling exhibition on town twinning.

A remembrance-related event/conference, where testimonies of the second and third generation of the families of the concentration camp survivors were presented and discussed.

A travelling exhibition on Nazism, led by young people doing research about the Jewish children and youngsters who disappeared from their community during World War II and that will continue as a co-operation between schools.
